Nicknamed "Jack" or "Johnny", he was the younger son of Sarah Jane (Moore) and Henry Rogers. His older brother was William Robert Rogers (1856-1937) who lived at Douglass, Texas. Their father, John A. "Henry" Rogers, died in about 1859 and Sarah married Richmond Bennett and had several more children.

Johnny married Sarah Belle Davis Rogers on 11 August 1889 at Nacogdoches, Texas. They had the following children:

William "Will" Rogers [no information], Della May (Rogers) McAdams, Allen Richard "Babe" Rogers, Roy Vernon Rogers, Sarah Ann "Annie" (Rogers) Ashworth.

Note regarding birthdate for John: Bennett Cemetery Association has transcribed his birthdate as 23 Feb 1858 as that is what is shown on his headstone; however, the Bennett family Bible shows his birthdate to be 17 Feb 1858.

William "Bill" was the son of Sarah Jane (Moore) and John Henry "Henry" Rogers. He had one full brother, John "Jack" Rogers and several half-brothers and sisters. His father died in about 1859. His mother remarried Richmond Bennett.

William married Wealthy Clementine Hodges in 1888. They had the following children, now deceased: Lula, Dillon, Sarah R, Gilbert L, Elbert F, Renvey E, John C, Charles R and Lillie B. Clementine passed away in 1901. William married Mary Frances Sanders in 1907. Deceased children are: Zeffie, Terry L, Winnie F and Mary Rita.

Henryetta was the daughter of Sarah Jane (Moore) (Rogers) & Richmond Oliver Bennett and grew up in Trinity county, Texas. She married Roscoe B. Deaton, son of Joanna (Chapman) & Francis Marion Deaton. They had four children.

Death Takes Mrs. Deaton

Funeral services for Mrs. Henrietta Deaton, 80, 1103 Grant Street, are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Tuesday in the Gipson Chapel with Rev. H. E. Small officiating. Interment will follow in the Bennett Cemetery, Trinity County.

The body wil be in state at the funeral home.

Mrs. Deaton was born in Trinity County on November 16, 1881, and died early Monday morning in a local hospital after a brief illness. She was a former resident of Trinity County, had lived in Lufkin for 40 years. She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church of Lufkin.

Survivors include one daughter, two sons, two sisters, two brothers, eight grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.

Gipson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
