Property | About 1900 Frank McCabe and his brothers began to look for land of their own. Frank and John homesteaded land in the Minot ND area. Frank to the east and John to the west near Berthold. Frank received his land patent in 1904. Early 1900's articles in the Grand Fork's newspaper pointed to Frank having land in Deep River ND. For example an article in 1910 stated \"Frank McCabe and Jos Lynch of Arvilla are spending some time on their farms in the Deep River. According to newspaper article from Minot ND, Frank Mccabe sold his farm east of Glenburn for $2500 in Nov 1904. |

Immigration | Frank and his brother Ben bought land in Alberta. Later Frank moved to Alberta to farm the wheat land there. Life was tough on the prairie -the family sod house burned down, Frank's father died while they were in Canada and finally, Dolores had to return to Larimore in 1913 to have their third child Frances. Soon after, Frank also returned to the farm in Hegton township outside Larimore. The land records for Frank and Ben's purchases can be found at the Glenbow Museum in Canada. http://ww2.glenbow.org/search/archivesCPRSearch.aspx Frank had SW 15-39-15-W4 (160 acres) and NW?SW 19-38-12-W4 (320 acres) |
Emigration | This record of border crossings at Gretna, Manitoba shows Frank McCabe (last entry on page) of Arvilla, ND crossing with Settlers Supplies on his way to Castor Alberta. The next page shows his brother A(rthur) McCabe and their friend Bud Geyer on the same train. Shared note | Tom McCabe says "Francis left for TX in 1918 with his family. The ND McCabes would visit Grandpa in South TX from time to time. I met Tine once, and spoke with her on the phone in the 1980's before I visited Ireland, but she didn't really have much info on the McCabes in Ireland. Both Grandpa Frank and Grandma Dolores were very intelligent people. Grandpa was a heck of a domino and gin player - even until he died at 99!" |
