Anna Jane was the first child and daughter to be born to Sarah and Nathan Gann. Early on she was called "Jennie." During the first twelve years of marriage, Anna Jane and Elias continued to live in Washington Co, TN where their first six children were born. By 1853 they were in Texas where three more children were born. In the entry for the 1850 U.S. census of Washington Co, TN, Elias and Ann J. are listed under *2150 as Whisner. In the 1860 census they are listed in Sparks Precinct No. 2, Titus Co, TX, Postoffice as Monticello. In 1870 Mount Pleasant is given as their post office address. In 1880 Elias and Anna Jane are living alone in Rockwall Co, TX.
