Note | From Wayne Gann, 18305 Hidden Falls, Eagle River, AK 99577 10/7/94 3/23/95 Nathan moved to Texas as a youth. In 1866 he and Ella moved to Indian Territory Oklahoma. It was here that they were burned out by the Indians three times. Each time they rebuilt and stayed on. Nathan escorted several herds of cattle up the Chisolm trail to stockyards in Kansas. J. F. Calloway of Marlow said he believed that Gann was the oldest settler in that city. At the time of his death in 1939 he had lived in the area for 53 years. In 1939 he was struck by a car while attempting to cross the street on Hwy 81 in downtown Marlow. He never recovered. He was a member of the first Board of County Commissioners of Stephens County, beginning his term of office in 1907. He also was superintendent of the first Sunday School at Doyle. Four children died during the residence in Indian Territory. |
