Note

From Phyllis Horsman From 1906 Eastern Cherokee Indian Applications. No. 3227 William T. Gann, Soddy, Tenn, Admitted. Applicant claims through his mother who is enrolled as Caroline M. Bicknell, C. 1669, Misc. Test P. 166, G.W. Penny, witness for William T. Gann. "I am 82 years of age. I have known William Thomas Gann since he was four or five years of age. His mother was a Cherokee Indian. She lived in my kitchen about two years and a half. Her mother was a full blood Cherokee Indian. I think she came from North Carolina but do not know what part. She spoke the Indian language and I could not understand a word she said. His mother received money from the government in 1852 (last digit blurred). She afterwards went to Arkansas and died there. William T. Gann enrolled by Hester. Mother enrolled by Chapman." Signed: G.W. "X" Penny. Chattanooge, Tenn., Jun 18, 1908. Roll P9 #865-William T. Gann - 50

From 1884 Hester Roll of the Eastern Cherokee, Lookout Mountain, Hamilton County, Tennessee; No. 2781 William Thomas Gann (3) Caroline Becknell 1669 CR H27.
