The following information from Sylvia (Graves) Gann 1970. They built a log house approximately 1/2 mile east and 1/4 mile north from the Niangua River bridge on Highway M in Dallas County. Cornelious later moved approximately 1/4 mile south across Highway M to a long house. His son Thomas built a five room house a few yards west where he lived until his death at age 38. Thomas and Rebecca's house still stands (1970) on the Herbert Gann farm. Thomas (Bund), grandson of Cornelious, built a log house a few yards east of Cornelious' first house and reared his family there. In 1946 he sold the farm and moved to Conway where he died. There have been six Gann families and four generations of Ganns who lived on this plat of land.

Affidavit dated 1888 signed by Davis H. Moreland, Lydia's brother, and Delila Moreland gives the date of Cornelius and Lydia's marriage as 3 Mar 1841. Affidavit dated Aug. 28, 1888 signed by his brother Silas states that Cornelius moved to Missouri in Spring of 1852. He and his wife, Lydia, came to Webster Co, Mo in the spring of 1852 and settled near Sand Springs, MO and resided there until 1857 when they moved to Dallas Co., MO where they lived out their lives.

Three of Cornelius' sons, Thomas, Francis Marion and James Madison, married three sisters, Rebecca Caroline Alley, Clara Jane Alley and Amanda Elmarine Alley, and settled close to Cornelius and Lydia. Thomas lived less than a city block from his father in Dallas Co, MO. James and Francis settled about two miles away. Most of the children of these three families also settled on adjoining farms forming the community known for years as "Gann Town." The only brother of Rebecca, Clara and Amanda, Sam Alley, lived for awhile on the hill just east of Gower's Branch on the south side of Highway M in Dallas Co.

Military: 1861 enlisted & served 6 mos in State Militia or Home Guards; then enlisted in Co. B, 24 Missouri Vols. Inf, Union Army. Served until discharged in late 1864 at St. Louis, MO. In Battles of Pea Ridge, AR; Tupelo, MS; & Pleasant Hill, LA.
