Note | From Wayne Gann, 18305 Hidden Falls, Eagle River, AK 99577 10/7/94 From Mrs. Ruth Schreiner, Duncan, OK 1994: Jesse ranched East of Marlow in the Foster area. He was a roper and rodeoed a lot. He had a horse named Silver that rode in an open pickup, no side boards. Silver was a stud and sired many good roping horses. Jesse Ray's husband was also a roper. From Billie Payne 1994: Uncle Jesse, as was all the Gann men, was an athletic type. He played football and was an avid calf roper. As I remember him, a very robust athletic type of a man, liked to rodeo and dance, liked the women, (he never remarried after Aunt Maudie died), but never drank or smoked. I never saw liquor in the Gann home in any form. One time he owned a drug store in Foster, OK and also was postmaster there. From Wayne Gann 1994: Once at Uncle Jesse's roping arena, Wayne's dad (Chauncey) set him on Silver who was standing in the corner of the arena. A calf was released for another roper and Silver went charging after the calf, dumping Wayne on the ground. He says he remembers that long fall and all those cowboys running out to him to see if he was alive. |
