Note

From Phyllis Horsman, 1032 River Hills Circle, Chattanooga, TN 37415 9/5/96.

Kate was a member of the Hosiery Workers, working at the hosiery mill in Soddy, and she worked at Soddy School through the WPA in 1942. She was a hard worker and could read and write. In 1937 on her Social Security card, Kate's address was Hosier Mill Road, Soddy, TN, and area soon flooded through the TVA acquisition. On 26 Feb 1938, Kate purchased with $800 cash lot #97 of Durham Land Co. in Soddy, registered in plat book 12, pp. 48 and 49. Kate died at 2 p.m. at her home, 74 years, 8 months and 6 days old. She was a member of the Oak Street Baptist Church in Soddy at her death. A congestive heart problem probably contributed to her death, and she had hyperthyroidism. She was buried in Soddy Presbyterian Cemetery next to her parents.
