Applicant claims through his mother who is enrolled as Caroline M. Bicknell, C. 1669. Misc. Test. P. 166. G. W. Penny, son of Thomas and Malinda Gann Penney, was an affiant for William T. Gann: "I am 82 years of age. I have known William Thomas Gann since he was four or five years of age. His mother was a Cherokee Indian. She lived in my kitchen about two years and a half. Her mother was a full blood Cherokee Indian. I think she came from North Carolina but do not know what part. She spoke the Indian language and I could not understand a word she said. His mother received money from the government in 1853. She afterwards went to Arkansas and died there. William T. Gann enrolled by Hester. Mother enrolled by Chapman." Signed: G. W. "X" Penny, Chattanooga, Tenn., Jun 18, 1908. Roll P9 #865--William T. Gann - 50 |
