Note | From Craig Hubbard, 1847 Garnet St, Corona, CA 91710 12/28/95. From Dorretta Moore 6/22/04 James Henry's parents were Joseph G. Vincent and America Virginia Milam, a full-blooded Indian, being half Cherokee and half Wyandotte. In 1850 Joseph & America came to MO, settling near the town of Conway in Laclede Co., MO. Joseph worked as a wagon master there for some time and also served in the Civil War. His wife, America, drew his Army pension after his death.. Eliza & James had 9 children and raised their family on a farm near Conway, Laclede Co., MO. Jim, as he was known, had a horse-drawn molasses mill near his home. The family ate a lot of molasses cakes and bisquits with butter and molasses. What was not needed, he sold to neighbors. Also, he operated a canning factory for several years, canning tomatoes. Eliza & Jim planted several acres of tomatoes, along with other vegetables, to feed the family. The tomatoes were sold to distributors. |
