Note

From Theola Baker, 164 Rube's Rd, Rose Bud, AR 72137 (501) 556-5443 6/8/96.

Laura Jane died under circumstances of which no one in the family is knowledgeable; thus there has always been some mystery as to the cause of death and apparent suddenness and unexpectedness with which it occurred. It has been told to Theola Walden Baker that Laura Jane was living somewhere near Oklahoma City at the time she died and is probably buried near there. The family was never notified until after she had been buried and Martha Gann returned home to say that her sister had died. There has been speculation on the part of some that she was perhaps a victim of domestic abuse that may have led to her death. Still others believe her sister Martha Gann may have had some role in foul play if indeed such was perpetrated. W.T. Walden says she probably died of a broken heart over the long-running affair between her husband Elbert Bennett and her sister Martha Gann.
