Following from "The First Hundred Years" by Sarah Blackwell Gober Temple, page 200 (a history of Cobb County, GA).

"The Earliest record which I have found of the value of slaves owned by individuals in the county is contained in the valuation of the estates of John Bolton and Henry T. Gann in 1837. . . . The estate of Henry T. Gann, minor, for whom John Gann was guardian, was appraised November 1, 1837, and the document shows 1 negro girl by the name of Rose, $450; 1 negro boy, Samuel, $450."
