Note | From Ray Gann, Rt 2, Box 105, Perkins, OK 74059. In June of 1848, the Fort Smith Herald newspaper reported that Isaac Gann and Creek Starr had killed a Cherokee woman near Evansville, Arkansas. The next weekly issue of the paper reported that a party of Cherokees had overtaken the outlaws and Isaac Gann was killed. In a related incident that occurred at the same time, Washington Starr was killed by two United States Deputy Marshals. Mary Ann McCoy Starr, Washington Starr's widow, later married Elias and Isaac's older brother, George Gann. |
