Note

From National Archives Pension Record. David Gann served in the Civil War. Alabama Cavalry Volunteers, "enrolled 6 Jan 1863, in Co. A and was discharged 6 Jan 1864 from Co. B at Memphis, David Gans was born in Marin county, Alabama, is 36 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, dark skin complexion, gray eyes, black hair, and by occupation, when enrolled, a farmer."

In Affidavit dated 31 Aug 1888 J. E. Hamilton, aged 37 years, and W. H. Hamilton, aged 33 years, swear that "they have examined the family Record of the said Widow Gann and we Certify that this is a true copey of the family record." The children are listed with their birth dates.

In this pension file of Widow Mary B. Gann is also a "Proof of Marriage" signed by Hannah F. Gann, 64, McNairy Co, TN and J. W. Gann, 42, Alcorn Co, MS, witnessed by R. M. Gann stating that they became acquainted with her in 1846 and saw the marriage. [Hannah was David's grandmother.] They were married by "Joshuway Gann, J. P."

In Affidavit dated 5 May 1888, J. M. Barran, age 48, states "he was a stout and healthy man. Soon the said soldier enlisted he became sick and was sent to the hospital. Sometime after he was sent to hospital he returned to his company slightly improved in health and remained in camp a day or two and he was sent to his family who lived inside of the lines at Glen Dale, Miss. and he reported afterwards for duty to his Co. but the officers pronounced him not fit for duty and he was permitted to go with his family to McNairy County Tenn. and was not able to sit up when he left for McNairy County Tenn."
