Aaron F. Gann, Hixson, TN. From E.Eugene Gann, R 4, Box 273, Hamilton, AL 35570 (205) 921-5232.

From Aaron F. Gann, Hixson, TN: John Gann, the son of Daniel and Charlotte Gann was born about 1843 in Marion Co, TN. He lived in and around Jasper until he enlisted in the Union Army. When he became old enough to fight in the Civil War, he tried to stay neutral and did not join either side. The Rebel Army needing men, came into Bridgeport, Alabama and gathered up all the men they could find. John was in the group, and they marched them around town making a spectacle out of them, trying to scare others into volunteering. After beeing paraded around, they were put into box cars to be send to the front lines. John managed to escape and went to the Union encampment and enlisted in the Calvary. I think the rest of his family was for the Confederates, which I think caused a split in the family. He never told his children about the family, and they never knew any of their aunts and uncles. When John got out of the army, he married a widow with one son. She was Mary Blancett Owen. Her husband, William Owen, was working with a road crew building a road to Jasper, TN. He got too hot while working and jumped into the town creek to cool off. He took cramps and died, leaving Mary and son John Henry Owen...John Gann's first wife Mary was buried at the Little White Church Cemetery at Jasper, TN. There was no marker put at her grave and the location is now unknown. John Gann's second marriage was to Malissa Grider. They lived together only a few years before she died. He then married a third time to Deleathie Millwood and they had two children.
