In addition, he attended a seminary and was ordained as a minister of the Disciples of Christ, or Christian Church.

Obituary in the News Palladium, Benton Harbor, Michigan, December 23, 1967: Rev. Barton A. Gann, 86, of 108 Cross Street, Benton Harbor, died at 7:00 P.M. Friday at Mercy Hospital where he had been a patient since October 31, 1967. He was born July 3, 1881, in Chillicothe, Missouri, the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Green Gann. He was an active minister in the Christian Church for fifty years, serving churches in Iowa, Nebraska, and Waukegan, Illinois. After retiring from the First Christian Church in Rock Rapids, Iowa, he moved to Benton Harbor. After a few months of retirement he became pastor of the Milburg Christian Church in Benton Harbor, where he served for seven years. He then became Minister of visitation at the First Christian Church in Benton Harbor, under the Rev. Jrank Kruger. He was forced to discontinue this work in 1964 because of ill health. Survivors include his widow, the former Bertha M. Knight, whom he married October 11, 1905 in Rockport, Missouri; one son, Maurice L., of Schaller, Iowa; one daughter, Mrs. Lawrence (Doris) Badgley, of Benton Harbor; two brothers, William J., of Gallatin, Missouri, and Vincent R., of Sullivan, Missouri, and one sister, Bertha, of Chillecothe, Missouri; three granddaughters, and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 10:00 at the Florin Funeral Home. The Rev. Frank Kruger will officiate, assisted by the Rev. Norman H. Vernon, Pastor of the Napier Parkview Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Milburg Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church building fund.

Churches: Ute, Iowa (1915-1921), Maxwell, Iowa (1921-1923), Chapel Street Church, Waukegan, Illinois (1929-1938), First Christian Church of Liscomb, Iowa (1938-1939), First Christian Church of Onawa, Iowa (1939-1943), invitation to pastorate at Goodland, Kansas in 1943, Hebron, Nebraska (1943-1947), Nebraska City, Nebraska (1947-1948?), Rock Rapids, Iowa (1948-1952), Milburg Christian Church, Milburg, Michigan (1952-1960), Pastor of Visitation at the Christian Church of Benton Harbor, Michigan (1960-1964).

Barton Abraham Gann was approximately five feet five inches tall, and moderately slender. He had smooth light brown hair and a light complexion, and a friendly smile and clever wit. Although he was by nature modest and queit, he could carry on a conversation with anyone. After the depression, when someone who had hitched a ride on the train had no money for dinner, he might find his way to the Gann house for a bite of dinner. The Rev. and Mrs. Gann couldn't provide a room, but they would provide food for any needy person.
