Obituary from Hamilton, Texas newspaper. George M. Gann, who had been a resident of Hamilton County for some seventy years of the 79 years of his life, passed quietly away at his home in the Fairy community on Friday morning, March 15, at 2:30 o'clock. He had been an invalid for a long time, and had been confined to his bed for many months. He was stricken fatally with paralysis on Sunday night preceding his death. The members of his devoted vamily and other relatives and friends were gathered at his bedside when the end came, releasing him from the bonds of pain and giving him a Christian's rest. A son of the late pioneer of Hamilton County settlers, Isaac Gann and Mrs. Mary E. W. Gann, whose name is illustrious in the annals of the history of this section of the state as builders of civilization and the progress of industry, George M. Gann was born near Lufkin, Angelina County, Texas, on January 26, 1861. While he was still a small boy the family moved to Hamilton County and established their home in the Leon river section. Mr. Gann acquired a baronial estate of rich farm and pasture lands, and promoted the industries of livestock raising and grain and cotton production on a large scale. He aided in building bridges, school houses, churches and gave land for the beautiful Gann cemetery, where several members of the family gone on home years ago, are buried. He was the last surviving son of the early day couple but leaves to mourn him three sisters, Mr. M. C. Bernowskey, of Rising Star, Texas; Mrs. H. H. Hoover, Houston, and Mrs. J. H. Grogan, Hamilton. Mrs. Julia Gann, wife of George M. Gann, who he married on May 5, 1887, died three years ago, leaving to comfort her lonely and grief stricken companion, four daughters and four sons of their family of ten children. They are Bause, Jesse, and Bryan, of the old home at Fairy; and Sol Gann of Lubbock, Texas; Miss Jemina Gann, who dwelt with her father; Mrs. J. A. Finkin, Mrs. M. C. Commander and Mrs. Walter Mixon, of Forth Worth, Texas. Others surviving are five grandchildren. On Friday afternoon, impressive memorial services, conducted by Rev. John D. West, of Hamilton, a beloved and trusted friend of the family, were held at the Fairy Baptist Church, where George M. Gann had worshipped for a goodly number of the years of his adult life. A great company of friends and relatives assembled at the temple of worship to pay a deserved tribute of affection and respect to this good and useful man who they will miss in every sphere of public activities, and in influence of citizenship. Interment was made by the side of the grave of his wife, and the body of George M. Gann sleeps in the Fairy cemetery...
