Note | From Bobbie Gann Bishop, 1404 W. Av. H, Lovington, NM 88260-5014. 5/14/94 From "The History of Hamilton County, Texas," page 188. E. M. Hoover Family--Elmer and I have always lived in Texas. His father, Albert Randolph Hoover, came to Texas on horseback from Kentucky at the age of fourteen. Elmer's mother, Susan M. (Gann) Hoover, was a native Texan. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Gann, owned over 3,000 acres of land in Hamilton County. My parents, Wiley Thomas and Annie Leona (May) Newman, moved from Bell County in the late 1800's and lived at San Angelo for a few years. Later they bought a farm at Daffau (Erath County) and lived there several years. We moved from Daffau to Fairy in 1904, as my father liked the black farming land and purchased a farm here. This farm is still in our possession. Elmer was born in 1896, and I was born in 1900. We grew up on adjoining farms and attended school together. |
