From William R. Gann, Independence, MO.

William enlisted in Sep 1862 Pikesville, Marion Co, AL and served in the Confederate Cavalry, Company B, 10th Alabama Regiment, Officer: Capt John Brown. Surrendered with unit at Nashville, TN 1865. William was near his home when released at the end of the war and would have had to travel 200 miles to be discharged. He was unable to go that distance, so did not receive discharge papers.
