Prudencio de Chavez was already a squadron leader in the Dragones de San Carlos by 1778.

Don Prudencio de Chavez became a military leader in the defense of the Rio Conchos area, eventually becoming a Capitan.

This is almost certainly Prudencio 20 years after he acquired Hacienda San Cristobal. He is not listed on the census of Hacienda San Cristobal but his children are. Prudencio's daughter Gregoria married an Armendariz so the name of the grandson matches.

Baptism record is difficult to read but the name of his mother is identifiable as Francisca Manrriquez, not Navarrete.

The probate of Prudencio was lengthy and contentious. the children from his first marriaage, his very close nephew Cristobal Armendariz, and his second wife's family filled the legal system with suits and counter suits.
