| Emigration | 1880 census for Kittson Co MN: Patrick McCabe age 23 Ontario. Farmer. Cannot read or write. |
| Property | Pat McCabe received his homestead patent in 1883. MN 5th PM 160N - 048W SW¼ 12 Kittson |
| Shared note | Leo told me that a Bill McCabe lived on the family farm. He married a woman named Roche-no issue. Bill's brother Pat came back from the States (North Dakota). He had not seen him in years and would not let him in because he wouldn't believe he was his brother Pat. Pat then identified a picture of Father Stafford on the wall behind Bill and then Bill let him in. He (Pat)died on that farm here, outside Lindsay. Death records from Lindsay confirm the story told above. According to his death record, Pat returned to Ops and lived for two years on the old farm before dying in 1930. The story is also confirmed in the Border Crossing, US to Canada 1908-1935 Database; a record shows that on Oct 21 1928, Patrick McCabe, age 71, born Lindsay Ont, Naturalized US citizen from ND, retired farmer, RC, Irish, entered Canada at Sarnia Ont, destined for his brother William's home in Lindsay. |
