On Wednesday April 4, 2012 Robert Romero Sr. age 70 of Hermleigh, TX was called home after a lengthy struggle with cancer. The son of Jesus and Cecilia Romero of Rotan, TX, he was a lifelong resident of Scurry County.
Robert Romero Sr. was married to Mary Rodriquez of Rotan in 1966. Together through 45 years of marriage, they raised a family of five children and ran a successful independent cotton farming business.
When asked to serve, Mr. Romero answered his nation's call by joining the US Army. During his tour of duty in Vietnam he distinguished himself by earning two Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart with one oak leaf cluster. Robert was honorably discharged at the rank of Sergeant.
Robert Romero Sr. was a successful cotton farmer who lived life on his terms; focused on life's simple truths - strong faith, hard work and love of family. He was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather. Whether serving his country in combat, raising his children with Mary, farming in good years and bad, or facing his ultimate struggle with cancer, Robert displayed bravery, courage, patience and humility.
Mr. Romero is survived by his wife Mary, two daughters, three sons and their families: Tricia Romero & Tim McCabe of Austin, Eva Romero of Snyder, Robert Romero Jr. & Sonja Romero of Lubbock, Eric Romero & Vickie Romero of Victoria and Joe Romero & Debi Romero of Lubbock. He is also survived by one brother and seven sisters.
Services for Mr. Romero will be held on Friday, April 6 at 2:00pm at The Word is Life Deliverance Church 312 Coliseum Drive Snyder, TX with Pastor Mike Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Snyder Cemetery under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale- Funeral Home.
