| Remembrance | Dewey was interviewed in 1991 by Tom McCabe at his mother's home in Brownsville Tx. Dewey was a great story teller; he did not let facts get in the way of spinning family yarns. Here he tells the story of the origins of the Bennett Cemetery outside of Crecy Tx on the highway between Groveton and Lufkin. The story is not factually correct. (His grandfather Richmond Bennett was released from POW camp in Maryland not Tennessee, and he did not die shortly after coming home from the war. Instead there is evidence that the cemetery was started by Richmond's father Mycajah before the War.) But it makes a good family story!! Dewey also relates a story of an early encounter with his Grandpa Evan Magee. |
