Death

Taken from Findagrave for Weaver Alexander Cotton

Birth: Dec. 7, 1822, Wilkes County, GA Death: Dec. 1, 1896, Kemp, Kaufman County, TX

12/22/1846: Weaver married Mary Elizabeth Cook @ Coweta Co., GA.

3/29/1849: Weaver and his wife, Mary, had a child. Baby Cotton is not listed in the 1850 Federal Census. I believe Baby Cotton and the mother both died during childbirth in 1849 and the baby was buried with it's mother.

Weaver is listed in the 1850 census taken 9/30/1850, for Coweta Co., GA, living with his brother-in-law, William Hindsman and his sister, Nancy Cotton, and their family. Also in that household was listed S. Cotton (Weaver's mother). His mother died in 1850. Weaver left Georgia after the 1850 census and in 1852, he married his second wife in Rusk Co., TX.

Was an early settler of the Lone Oak Community in Kaufman Co., TX.

History of Kaufman County, page 379: Jonas Williams, b. 1795 @ South Carolina. In 1821, he married Mary Ware and in 1845 they arrived in Texas. In 1852, Jonas received a grant of land in Kaufman County which was about ten miles southeast of the town of Kaufman. It was recorded April, 1854 and is still called the Jonas Williams survey. Jonas was thrown from a horse and killed. Mary sold 291 acres of land to Weaver Cotton for $582. Deed is recorded and signed by his heirs on 11/02/1858. Mary and her family moved to Brown County.

Weaver gave land for the Lone Oak Cemetery in 1858 when a family was passing through the area and lost their young child. Later becoming the final resting place of the Cotton family and other families of the Lone Oak Community.
