Wright, 131 Hilltop Dr, Lake in the Hills, IL 60102-11770 (847) 658-5993 7/13/96 Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, ed. 8-B, Wayne County--Thomas GANN, M.D., was born in Wayne County, Ky., September 3, 1826, and is the youngest of nine children born to Thomas and Frances (Richardson) Gann, viz: Sarah, Eliza, Sophronia, Frances, Millie, Elizabeth, James, Samuel and Thomas. Thomas Gann, Sr., was a native of North Carolina, who removed to Wayne County, Ky.. He was a farmer, and a son of John Gann. Frances (Richardson) Gann was also a native of North Carolina, and was a daughter of Joseph Richardson. Thomas Gann, M.D., was reared on a farm and received a common-school education. He served as constable two years, and in 1850 commenced to read medicine with Dr. James H. Swindells, and also attended lectures at the Kentucky School of Medicine at Louisville. He located in Jamestown in 1852, where he remained two years, and then removed to Wayne County, where he engaged in practice ten years, altogether engaged in practice thirty years. He subsequently removed to Texas, where he remained one year, and then returned to Jamestown, from whence he removed to the State of Kansas and remained one year, returning to Jamestown, where he has since resided. March 1, 1859, he married Sidney Parmley, a daughter of Robert Parmley. They are the parents of two children, Sam A. and R. W. Mrs. Gann is a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Dr. Gann is a Royal Arch Mason, and a Democrat politically. |
