Death | Obituary for Hugh Boyd: Brother Hugh Boyd was born in Greeson County, Virginia, Oct 1, 1806, and moved with his parents when a youth, to the State of Tennessee and from thence to the State of North Carolina. He was married to Miss Mary Dudley Aug 23, 1829, and he and his companion embraced religion and united with the M.E. Church in the year 1830. The following year they moved to the State of Indiana, and settled in Marion County. Sept 10, 1850 he was called to part with his wife of his youth by death. April 5, 1851 he was married to Mrs. Anna Branningburgh, with whom he lived seventeen years, when death again came and took his companion. He was married to Mrs. Martha Young, his now bereaved wife, January 18, 1871. Oct 12, 1876, in Mooresville, Ind, he departed this life, aged 70 years and 12 days. Brother Boyd was a tender father and loved his children much; was an affectionate and attentive husband, and was a loyal, peaceable and law abiding citizen. He was an earnest, faithful, devoted Cristian man, loved the church much and labored for the advancement of the cause of religion; was ever in his place in the house of God, and prompt in the discharge of duty. He suffered long and much with disease, but when death came he was fully prepared to meet it. There was not the least dread or fear. When the moment came for him to depart he seemed to rest on Jesus's breast and breathe his life out calmly, his last moments being as one passing to sleep. Sometime before he died he said to his pastor, "Sing for me." The question was asked "Have you any especial song you wish sung?" "No," he answered. Then was sung "Shall We Gather at the River?" and also "The Beautiful Land." He enjoyed the singing very much. He expressed himself as having much concern for the spiritual welfare of his children. He said, " I have many friends in heaven to look out for me to come." and he has now gone to meet them in the bright land where there is no death. Home is left lonely by his removal, but heaven is made the more attractive by his transfer there. His body is to sleep in the tomb, but not forever. The immortal Jesus said "I am the Resurrection and the life; he that believeth in me, though her were dead, yet shall he live." Many are left to mourn, but their loss is the gain of he that has been taken from our midst. He rests from his labors and his works do follow him. S.W. McNaughton |
