Residence | From the Find A Grave entry for James Turley, Carlyle Cemetery, Logan Co, IL: James Turley took out an entry of land in present day Logan Co, ILL on 28 Nov 1824. The area was called Lake Fork and his was one of the first three white families there. He was the arbitrator for the Indians and they called him "Big Chief" or "Old Boss Tone". He made application for a Revolutionary War pension 18 Sept 1832 in Sangamon Co. ILL at the age of 71. He served in the Revolution three times. He stated he served the first time when a resident of Fairfax Co. VA and served twice when a resident of Henry Co. VA. He married his wife Agnes Kerby 10 May 1781 in Henry Co. VA. |
