| Death | WALTER R. GIERKE Obituary Walter R. Gierke, 55, a Town of Schleswig farmer, died today at his farm home after a long illness. Born in 1905 on the homestead farm, he was a son of the late August and Marie (Wilke) Gierke. He attended the district school and in 1940 married Ida Wagner McCabe of Collins. He operated the Gierke homestead farm and lived there all his life. He was a member of Bethlehem United Church of Christ in the Town of Schleswig and of the church’s brotherhood. Survivors in addition to his wife are two daughters, one son, three stepsons, one step-daughter, 10 step-grandchildren. Three sisters, Mrs. Lawrence Schweitzer of rural Kiel, Mrs. Richard Draheim of rural Reedsville and Mrs. Helmuth Drake of rural Elkhart Lake; and two brothers, Helmuth Gierke of rural Kiel and Carl Gierke of Wasbash, Ind. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Bethlehem United Church of Christ in the Town of Schleswig. The Rev. Carl Fried, pastor, will officiate. Friends may call at Meiselwitz Funeral Home in Kiel from 3 p.m. Friday until 11 a.m. Saturday and at the church from noon until the time of services.
