Birth | The Bishop's Transcript for this entry is wrong. Someone inverted the names of John & Ann in the adjacent entries in the Bishop's version. Name | John, son of Thomas and Elizabeth Braines of Islip Northamptonshire and Keystone Hunts, may be the same man as John Braines, a shepherd who lived in Orton Longville Hunts for many years (1820-60). On the 1851 census John (the shepherd) stated he was born in Islip. He was a shepherd, as was his father Thomas; and he is the same age as Thomas' son. Both John of Orton Longville and William Braines in 1861 stated they were from Castor in Northhampshire. There is evidence that this William was also a son of Thomas and Elizabeth. |
