Media object | William Muldoon Wrote Letter Supporting George Downey, 1861, Victoria Co, Ontario Format: image/jpeg Image dimensions: 1,477 × 1,863 pixels File size: 972 KB Type: Document Note: When the Ontario government began to give patents for land in the mid 1800s, each existing settler had to prove he had been resident on the land for a minimum time. In 1861 William Muldoon (Conc 7 Lot 11) wrote a letter supporting George Downey's application for a patent on Concession 8, Lot 6. He stated that Downey had been living on the land for at least 17 years. I believe this letter supports the theory that George Downey's wife Ann Muldoon Downey was William's sister.
