![]() #1 | Solomon MANGUM December 19, 1787 Notes for Solomon Mangum from ancestry.com Posted 19 jul 2007 by GRNNYDONNA On January 20, 1791, Solomon Mangum was listed as an orphan in Caswell County, North Carolina, at age 4, and was endentured to Martin Cooper, an uncle, as an apprentice. The Mangum family left North Carolina between 1810-1812 and lived in St. Tammany's Parish, Louisiana, and in Columbia, Marion County, Mississippi, and finally settled at Cato, Rankin County, Mississippi. Solomon was a ginwright by trade and lived alternately in Covington, Louisiana and Cato, Mississippi. He and wife Zillah Chapman Mangum are both buried in the Cato Cemetery, Rankin County, MS, four miles south of Highway 18, between Johns and White Oak, near the Cato Baptist Church. |
