 Birth | about 1772 Note: There has been much speculation on the pedigree for Clarissa ROSS. Some have said her father was the Quaker Alexander Ross of Surry Co but there is no evidence of that. It is possible that Clarissa's father was David Ross. Charley Dudley, Robert's father, bought land from David Ross in 1784, at about the same time that Robert Dudley and Clarissa Ross were born; so at least we know there was a connection in time and geography.

| Death of a husband | Robert DUDLEY October 4, 1834 (Age 62 years) Note: The family story is that in 1834 Robert and Clarissa decided to migrate West with their three sons and family members. They prepared their wagons and on the day set for departure, 10 Oct 1834, Robert died from a sudden heart attack. He is buried in the Hardin-Hering private cemetery o the farm of his eldest daughter Elizabeth, about 2 mies outside of Mt Airy near Whiteside. He left no written will but a noncupative will for Robert was filed in Surry county.
