Note: According to documents found in the Surrey History Center, John Jeffrey the Younger mortgaged his property known as Beal-Wood in 1769. But in 1772 documents show that is brother James Jeffrey \"assignee of the Estate and Effects of John Jeffrey the Younger\" surrenders title to Beals-Wood as part of John's Estate bankruptcy. Thus John the Younger must have died about 1771. (Surrey History Center Documents 1294/2/27 1294/2/35)

Birth

It is not absolutely known who Sarah Jeffrey's parents are but the strongest evidence is that Sarah was the daughter of William Jeffreys (Jeffrey, Jeffereys, Jeffries) and Sarah Radford of Frensham. William was born in 1714/1715 in Frensham, the son of Richard Jeffrey. Other male children of Richard's were John, Isaac, George, and Richard. Even though other Jeffrey families lived in the parish, baptism records for St Marys of Frensham show that the sole Sarah Jeffreys born in the 1730-44 timeframe were daughters of John and William. According to John Jeffrey's will probated in 1781, but signed in 1773, his daughter Sarah Jeffrey was still unmarried. So Sarah Jeffrey, who married Thomas Chuter in 1757, is most likely Sarah, daughter of William, baptized April 17, 1739.

(Records annotated with a * are ancestors of Ann Porter, wife of Frederick Summers.)

The parish records for Frensham have these marriage records (amongst others):

18 Sept 1733 John Jeffrey & Ann Albury *13 Apr 1738 William Jeffrey & Sarah Radford (or Ratford), dau of John Radford. *12 Oct 1757 Thomas Chuter & Sarah Jeffery both of this parish *9 Dec 1778, Sarah Chuter & James Porter, parents of Ann Porter.

And these are some supporting baptism records from Frensham:

Isaac Jeffrey, son of Richard, bap 26 Apr 1703 John Jeffrey, son of Richard, bap 27 Jan 1706 Mary Jeffrey, dau of Richard, bap Nov 1708 (died 1715) Ann Jeffrey, dau of Richard, bap 8 Oct 1710 George Jeffrey, son of Richard, bap 7 Feb 1712 (died 31 Mar 1717) *William Jeffrey, son of Richard, bap 22 Sept 1714/15 *Sarah Jeffrey, dau of William, bap 22 Sept 1739 Sarah Jeffrey dau of John, bap 10 Mar 1741/42 *Sarah Chuter, dau of Thomas Chuter and Sarah Jeffrey, bap 24 Feb 1758 *Ann Porter, daughter of James Porter and Sarah Chuter, bap 1 Mar 1785

Also, these are some of the supporting burial records:

John Jeffrey Sr, 23 May 1781 - Left a will. Father of unmarried Sarah Jeffrey. *Sarah RADFORD Jeffrey, 23 Dec 1789. Wife of William Sr. Probable mother of Sarah JEFFREY Chuter. *William Jeffrey Sr, 23 Jun 1790. Probable father of Sarah JEFFREY Chuter. *Sarah CHUTER Porter, Wife of James Porter, Ann Porter's mother, 7 Sept 1790. Ann Jeffrey (Widow), 28 Jan 1795. Probable Ann ALBURY Jeffrey, wife of John Jeffrey. John Jeffrey, 5 Jun 1805. 65 years. Probable son of John Jeffrey and Ann ALBURY. *Sarah Chuter, 4 Apr 1824, age 85, of Waverley Compton. Probable Sarah JEFFREY Chuter, born 1739. *James Porter, age 91, father of Ann Porter, buried 17 Feb 1838. John Jeffrey, 19 Jan 1838, age 86.

In 1772, in a document found in the Surrey History Center concerning title to a cottage filed by James Jeffrey of Frensham, Bottlemaker, it was stated that James is the assignee of John Jeffrey the Younger but does not give the relationship.

Further documents concerning the cottage in Frensham were filed in 1795 that mention \"James Jeffrey, Bottlemaker ...and late John Jeffrey (evidently the Elder), Father of the said James Jeffrey ...\"

Note

There was a John Jeffrey in Dockenfield (just west of Frensham) in the 1730-1760 time frame. In 1755 a a mortgage document by John Roe mentioned John Jeffrey.

Further documents concerning the cottage in Frensham were filed in 1795 that mention \"James Jeffrey, Bottlemaker ...and late John Jeffrey (evidently the Elder), Father of the said James Jeffrey ...\"
