A handwritten letter dated 23 Nov 1857.

The State of Mississippi Simpson County

On this 23rd day of November 1857 before me the undersigned An acting Justice of the peace in And for said County personally appeared Naomi McGee a resident of Simpson County aged about Sixty-two years who being duly sworn according to law declares that She is the widow of Evans McGee who was a private in the Company of Louisiana militia Commanded by Captain William Bickum in the War declared by the United Sates against Great Britain on the 18th day of June 1812. that the said husband Continued in actual service in said war three months and was honorably discharged at the Navy Yard in said state of Louisiana.

She further states that she was married to the said \"Evans McGee\" in Saint Tammany Parish in the said state of Louisiana about the year 1816. that her said husband died in Said Simpson County in the state of Mississippi about the Year 1836. And that She is now a widow. that there is no .. of this marriage that she can procure. She makes the declaration for the purpose of obtaining the bounty land to which she may be entitled under the Acts approved 3rd March 1855 and 14th May 1856. She never applied for or obtained bounty land under this or any other Acts of Congress heretofore passed. She hereby irrevocably Constitutes and appoints Terence McGowan of Brandon Mississippi to be her true and lawful attorney to prosecute this claim and to demand and receive from the proper Office of the Government of the United States the Certificate or Warrant to which She may be Entitled whenever the same may issue.

We Aaron Hutson and Richard Burk residents of said Simpson County in the state aforesaid of Mississippi upon an oath declare that the foregoing declaration was signed and acknowledged by Naomi McGee in our presence. that we were personally acquainted with Evans McGee in his lifetime for ten years previous to his death and with the said Naomi McGee and that they have lived together as husband and wife during said period of time and was of good repute as such and that the said \"Evans McGee\" died of a wound inflicted upon him at Westville by one \"Revell\", in or about the year 1836. Affiants say that they are not interested in the prosecution of this claim.
